Anti Saar (1980) is an Estonian writer, translator and game designer. Whereas as a translator, Saar is noted for his translations of linguistically demanding fiction and books of modern philosophy (his resume includes authors like Georges Perec, Guy Debord and Maurice Blanchot), as an author he has produced successful work for both adults and children, and his children’s books in particular have met with a lot of praise. His first children’s book Kuidas meil asjad käivad (How We Do Things Here) won the children’s literature prize of the Estonian Cultural Endowment in 2013. Last year, his book Pärt ei oska salto (Pärt Can’t Do a Backflip) won the Book Mark award, which is awarded to the most read children’s and young adult book at the Tallinn Central Library. The book is about a little boy who is not very good at doing backflips. Anti Saar will meet his fans in the balcony hall of the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre. Who knows, maybe he will even do a backflip?
