Domenico Starnone
Domenico Starnone (1943) is an Italian writer, screenwriter and journalist. Estonian readers can now enjoy Starnone’s 2014 novel Lacci (Tied) that deals with a timeless subject – infidelity and the decline of a marriage. The plot is set in motion by an event that is mundane in today’s world: after a long and happy marriage, a man leaves his wife and two children for a younger woman. Starnone looks at this abandoning from three perspectives: that of the husband, the wife and the children. As the title alludes, Starnone’s novel looks at strong ties, how they are formed and the pressure they exert. This way, it is not merely an analysis of a marital crisis in a literary form, instead it is a look at how people see themselves and others. Domenico Starnone will discuss his book and much more with writer and translator Maarja Kangro.
