David Lagercrantz

David Lagercrantz (1962) is a Swedish writer and journalist. He became world-famous when he took on the continuation of the Millennium novel series. The original author of these psychological thrillers, Stieg Larsson (1954-2004) only completed three of his planned ten novels and they were all published posthumously. Ever since the publication of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Män som hatar kvinnor, 2005), the Millennium series has played a prominent part in the international success of nordic noir. Larsson’s books feature intricate and bloody criminal plots, and crimes are caused by societal problems – in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, it is violence against women. In 2013, Lagercrantz was asked to continue the novel series while preserving the main characters – Lisbeth Salander, a young woman with slightly autistic traits and an excellent memory, and investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist. The fourth novel of the series and Lagercrantz’ first instalment, The Girl in the Spider’s Web (Det som inte dödar oss, 2015) takes inspiration from cybercrime; in the follow-up, the fifth novel The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye (Mannen som sökte sin skugga, 2017) Lisbeth Salander is fighting for her life in prison, and the novel looks at her past as well as the injustice of the state apparatus.
