David Patrikarakos is a British journalist and presenter. His 2014 debut Nuclear Iran: Birth of An Atomic State outlines the increasing nuclear capabilities of Iran and the concomitant international tensions. Patrikarakos’ book War in 140 Characters: How Social Media is Reshaping Conflict in the Twenty-First Century, published in 2017, gained a lot of attention. Using his experiences with the war in Ukraine as well as conflicts in the Middle East, Patrikarakos looks at the growing role of social media in modern warfare. He employs the term homo digitalis to denote a new type; global fighters who use the Internet to achieve their ends. A six-part documentary series is currently being filmed based on the book. Patrikarakos has written about international relations, especially the politics of the Middle East and former Soviet countries and disinformation in most major English-language publications. You can meet David Patrikarakos at the Estonian Writers’ Union where he talks to Sven Sakkov, the Director of the International Centre for Defence and Security.
