Antti Tuomainen (1971) is a Finnish writer, one of the most widely read Finnish authors today, and his works have been likened to those of Houellebecq and Atwood. Tuomainen has published ten novels, which are mostly dark crime stories sprinkled with black humour. His debut Tappaja, toivoakseni was published in 2006 and tells the story of a man who is hired to commit a murder but who begins to have doubts about his assignment. Two books by Tuomainen have been translated into Estonian so far. His fifth novel Kaivos (2016) is about a mine that has caused an environmental disaster and journalist Janne Vuori investigating the illegal operations of the mine has to face some serious dangers. His ninth novel Jäniskerroin published two years ago centres on insurance mathematician Henri Koskinen who inherits an adventure park with some seriously cooked books. Here, Tuomainen successfully combines criminal plot devices with a good sense of humour, bringing a refreshing take to Nordic noir. Antti Tuomainen will speak to writer Jan Kaus.
