Ilmar Tomusk
Ilmar Tomusk (1964) is an Estonian civil servant and children’s author. At the head of the Language Board, Tomusk can make a serious, concrete, sometimes strict impression. As a children’s writer, Tomusk likes to play with both language and mind and make jokes. Tomusk is a very prolific author, having published more than fifty works since 2007. His prolific output is complemented by critical acclaim – Tomusk, for example, has won as many as five Järje Hoidja Awards, more than any other Estonian children’s author. Tomusk’s continued top form is confirmed by the fact that this year alone, he has published two books – Matemaatiline sõber. Tagasi koju and Linnalaste krimisuvi. Ruudulise särgiga mees. Last year, Tomusk published six books, one of which – Kukeleegu with illustrations by Anu Kalm – was nominated for the Children’s Literature Award of the Cultural Endowment. Kukeleegu tells a clever story about a young rooster who, according to farm animals, crows differently than before, even in a foreign way – how to cope with such a change?
