Jari Järvelä
Jari Järvelä (1966) is a Finnish writer who has written novels, collections of short stories, radio plays and opera librettos. For Estonian readers, Järvela is a familiar name. Kosken kahea puolta (2019) explores the most complex event in Finland’s recent history – the civil war of 1918 and its ramifications that stretch into decades. The work was nominated for the Finlandia Prize. Aino A. (2021) deals with an important topic – the invisibility of women in a male-centric world. Aino Aalto was not just the wife of the famous architect Alvar Aalto, but also his creative partner, whose contribution and talent have unfortunately been undeservedly overshadowed by her husband – an oversight that Järvela is trying to correct. Questions about the role of women in society and documentary material are also explored in Rakastan Eva Braunia, which tells the story of a struggling writer called Johanna, who, in the course of her soul-searching, begins to falsify Eva Braun’s diaries and the identity of that infamous woman slowly starts to take over.
