Louisa Young is an English prose writer, songwriter and journalist. Her debut A Great Task of Happiness was published in 1995 and is about her grandmother, the sculptor Kathleen Scott (1878-1947) who was the wife of the famous explorer Robert Scott. Young has written children’s books with her daughter Isabel Adomakoh Young under the pseudonym Zizou Corder. One of her best-known books, the 2011 novel My Dear, I Wanted to Tell You is a story about the First World War, and she has followed it up with several sequels. Her newest work is the biographical You Left Early: A True Story of Love and Alcohol (2018) where she remembers her partner, the beloved composer and pianist Robert Lockhart who was also an alcoholic. It is an honest look at a man who was a charismatic prodigy with a working-class background but also an unfaithful drunkard. Young’s book is also an emotional love letter and a sober insight into the effects of alcoholism. Young  published an LP to accompany the book, her musical debut. Louisa Young will talk to translator and publisher Krista Kaer.
