Yelena Skulskaya (1950) is an Estonian writer, poet and essayist, whose inventive documentary novel Мраморный лебедь (2014) was shortlisted for the Russian Booker Prize and won the Estonian Cultural Endowment’s Russian author literary prize. Skulskaya has also created poetry and theatre programmes for our festival and this year is no exception. Мышка-глупышка-2 (Silly Mouse, part 2) is a funny poetry performance written and produced by Skulskaya. Its plot is linked to the children’s poems by Samuil Marshak but she has also been inspired by Brodsky, Shakespeare and Lermontov. The story is about mouse parents who would like to go where the mice are partying but their baby refuses to be left home alone; the search for a nanny begins and finally, a cat is chosen. All people aged three and older are welcome to come and enjoy the show at the Russian Theatre on Saturday 27 May at 12 pm and 2 pm.
