Katri Kirkkopelto

Katri Kirkkopelto (1966) is a Finnish artist, illustrator, children’s author and art teacher. The little readers of Estonia mainly love her for her Molli series. The 2013 book Molli presents a small, slightly moody creature who lives alone in a big garden and dreams of a friend to share secrets with, just sit with and sulk with. To find a friend, Molli starts to learn beautiful sentences and practice how to bow politely and smile winningly – and one day, a little character named Little Sisu knocks on the door. With her sweet and humorous story, Kirkkopelto won over the readers and nine books have been published in the Molli series. No less than three editions of the original Molli have been published in Estonia, most recently in 2022. The same year, Molli’s Christmas was published – as the title indicates, Molli and friends start to talk about an important event that requires lots of preparations and particularly good behaviour. Katri Kirkkopelto will speak to the programme manager of the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre Katrin Tõnisson.
